Risk Management for Water Treatment (Micro-Credential)

This new 15 credit Micro-credential is a classroom based course designed for those interested in water treatment. To the existing Principles and Trends course it adds a case study and assessment which enables the Micro-credential to be awarded on successful completion of both.

Description

Course Content includes:

Water demand and characteristics
Water treatment processes from pre-treatment to filtration and final disinfection, including waste management, taste & odour, and fluoridation

Water reform including:

Water Services Act 2021 and its implications
New Drinking Water Standards and Quality Assurance Rules
Te Mana o Te Wai

Drinking Water Safety Planning
Small Water Systems (now called Acceptable Solutions)
Field trip
Analyse and review water supply information for the risk management of the drinking water supply
Plan and conduct a drinking water safety plan assessment targeting the risk management of the drinking water supply
Compile a report and presentation, that discusses:

the adequacy of the drinking water safety plan to ensure that identification of risks to public health and steps to manage those risks are included in the plan, and
for one specific risk identified in the drinking water safety plan, review how the supplier is implementing the plan to manage this risk.

Assessment information

Once you have completed the course there will be a report/presentation assessment that is required to be completed within 6 weeks of attending the course. On successful completion of the assessment you will be awarded the Certificate in applying Risk Management to Water Treatment Management (Micro-credential).
